Benefits and job satisfaction.

By Alex de Soto

If you’re a member of SHRM, don’t miss their Workplace Visions Report on Benefits Trends (Number 3, 2007).

Two charts immediately caught my attention: One listed the top 10 “very important” aspects of job satisfaction according to employees. The other listed the top aspects of job satisfaction according to HR professionals.

Employees surveyed said that Benefits and Compensation/pay were the most important aspects of job satisfaction while HR professionals surveyed though that relationships with immediate supervisors were most important.

HR regarded benefits as the 4th most important while employees regarded relationships with immediate supervisors as the 8th most important.

If these surveys are accurate, HR seems to be aware of the need to focus on benefits but it doesn’t seem to be in alignment with employees opinions on just how important benefits are.

If you’re a SHRM member you may access the reports here.
